Each team is responsible for paying the umpires at the pre-game meeting before the game begins.
Refer to the Event Details above for the specific cost for this event.
In tournament play, teams are only required to pay for games leading up to the finals. The tournament host will cover the umpire fees for the final games.
The pay-at-the-plate system is now widely adopted across the area.
This system is considered fairer, as lower-seeded teams aren’t paying extra to subsidize the games played by higher-seeded teams in later rounds.
Teams also benefit from lower upfront entry fees, which means they don’t have to gather as much funding from parents at the start of the season.
If a tournament is shortened due to weather, teams won’t be out of pocket for games that aren’t played.
Umpires do not issue refunds for games that are shortened or canceled due to weather or other unforeseen issues. However, if a game is resumed after being postponed, teams do not need to pay the umpires again.
