JOHN NICASTRO

HEAD COACH | OWNER | HITTING | DEFENSE | CONDITIONING | RECRUITING | PLAYER & COACH DEVELOPMENT

Coach Nicastro has always had a passion and love for softball.  He’s been coaching and/or playing fast pitch softball at a high level for 30 years.

Coach Nicastro has been working with athletes from 5 year old softee-ball to collegiate players for decades.  He’s worked with hundreds of student athletes from the ones who haven’t learned how to hold a bat or ball, to Division 1 collegiate phenoms.  Coach Nicastro’s love & passion for the game is second to none and is evident through his coaching day in and day out. Coach Nicastro has brought success to every program and level he’s coached.

When asked, “What is Success?” He answered,

“Success is different for everyone and I know that better than anyone. Success for one student athlete could be building skills necessary to make the high school team, while success for another could be training to be an All-American at the collegiate level. Knowing each and every player is vital to the success of any program. This is what separates my coaching style from 99% of the other coaches. I love developing ALL players, at all levels, at any age.”

Coach Nicastro’s most impressive development was when he took over Gloucester High School’s softball program in 2012.  Prior to taking over Gloucester softball, they had 3 wins in three seasons. Nicastro came in, built the right coaching staff and surrounded himself with the right people. His expertise in player and coach development, went on to build one of the strongest programs in school history. Gloucester Softball went on to win over 115 games in his 8 seasons including (2) NEC Championships, Division 2 North Champs, Division 2 Eastern Mass Champs, 2018 NEC Coach of the Year, 2019 NEC Coach of the Year and 2019 Division 2 Boston Globe Coach of the Year. Coach Nicastro took a North Eastern Conference team the furthest any team had ever gone in North Eastern Conference History, to the 2019 Division 2 State Championship.

Coach Nicastro retired in 2021 as the winningest coach in Gloucester history for a female team sport, most playoffs wins ever for a female team sport, 2nd most wins ever in any sport and highest winning percentage in a female team sport. All in 9 seasons of coaching.  This doesn’t happen through luck alone; it happens from knowing how to build team chemistry, love and passion and that’s exactly what Coach Nicastro brings day in and day out.
